School Underachievement

Academic expectations begin as early as preschool. Many parents and teachers worry about kids falling behind. We can evaluate children of all ages with academic difficulties.

There are many health and developmental factors that contribute to school success. At PMC we look at the whole child; we assess the learning environment, the home environment, nutrition, family and medical history, and academic history. We review evaluations done by school psychologists and we evaluate for ADHD. We guide parents in navigating the school system and advocating for your child to learn in the best way possible for them.

We have additional in office objective testing to evaluate attention, impulsivity and visual and auditory processing. School underachievement has a profoundly negative impact on a child’s self-confidence, motivation and mood. If we can address these problems early, we can often prevent these negative consequences and build confidence and resilience for each child.

We also discuss the risks and benefits of medications, prescribe medications when necessary, and provide resources to help parents navigate these challenges.
